We are proud to feature two freshman student athletes from the CREC Academy of International Studies in Connecticut: Elyssa Ofori-Boack and Malia Charles. Both have been tremendous role models in their school community and we are grateful for their commitment to 'Tackling Illiteracy'.
Elyssa is a member of the volleyball and basketball teams and has been a 2nd & 7 athlete volunteer for 1 year. She shares, "I get to connect with the kids and teach them valuable life lessons shown in the books I read to them." Outside of school and her sports, Elyssa enjoys working with children at her church and volunteering for other causes.
Malia is a member of the volleyball, basketball and track & field teams and has also served as a 2nd & 7 athlete role model for 1 year. Her favorite aspect about serving as a 2nd & 7 volunteer is, "creating a bond with the kids and talking to them about life." Malia also enjoys band and softball.
