This week we are excited to feature three Walsh University athletes in our Student-Athlete Spotlight! For over seven years, Walsh University athletes have partnered with Louisville City Schools in Ohio through our 2nd & 7 literacy outreach program. We are grateful for the tremendous impact Walsh University athletes have upon young readers during their four visits each year to Louisville Elementary.
Olivia Kearns is a Senior at Walsh University, majoring in nursing, and is a member of the Women's Volleyball program,. She has participated in the 2nd & 7 outreach in the Louisville area for four years. Olivia shares that the most important part of 2nd & 7 is being able to impact young lives in a small way. She enjoys hearing their stories, their background, their passions and their knowledge and beliefs. Olivia believes the feeling and meaning of this program is something so special and she does not think any person who has been involved can put into words how 2nd & 7 truly impacts and changes the youths' and athletes' lives. Outside of her life at Walsh, Olivia enjoys doing outdoor activities such as disc golf, fishing, hiking and running. She also works as a Nursing Student Technician at Summa Health Systems Hospital.
Davis Burick is a Junior at Walsh University, majoring in accounting with a minor in data analytics, and is a member of the Baseball program. He has participated in the 2nd & 7 outreach in the Louisville area for three years. Louisville Elementary is the school that Davis attended and he loves coming back to the school and seeing the kids' faces light up when he reads to them. He believes that 2nd & 7 is valuable to the kids and teaches them lessons about respect and manners, which will help them grow up to be the best versions of themselves. Davis enjoys spending time outside of class with his teammates and helping with activities around the campus. He also enjoys competing in various intermural sports that are offered at Walsh.
Sarah Cantley is a Senior at Walsh University, majoring in AYA Integrated Social Studies/Education, and is a member of the Softball program. She has volunteered with 2nd & 7 for two years. Sarah enjoys spending time with the elementary students and working with them through the Hog Mollies activities. She enjoys the meaningful and impactful interactions that take place while getting to know the students. Sarah is a graduate of Louisville City Schools and was a 2019 Softball State Champion. Outside of her time at Walsh, she enjoys traveling, reading and spending quality time with family and friends.
